From Humble Beginnings to a Community Staple Koch Excavating’s story began in 1974 with just a small crawler, a five-yard dump truck, and an ambitious vision shared by Marj and Ray Koch. Operating out of a makeshift location in Columbus, Nebraska, with no building or facilities, they focused on basement excavation and site work. “We started small, working outside in the cold and relying on word-of-mouth to get by,” Marj recalls.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kevin Brown found himself looking for new opportunities. As a former City of Omaha street maintenance foreman, he started out accepting casual handyman jobs, but quickly transitioned into construction and excavation work.
Jensen Gardens, a landscaping company based in Springfield, Nebraska, has experienced remarkable growth since its inception in 2004. Started by two brothers over 20 years ago, Jensen Gardens has steadily grown into a well-established tree farm and landscape company, offering design, construction, and maintenance services throughout Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa.
Growing up on a farm in northeast Nebraska, Matt Wilke gained mechanical aptitude and familiarity with earthmoving by helping his dad work the land and keeping the equipment and machinery running.
