DPF Cleaning and Testing

Your diesel particulate filter provides a valuable service for your machine by removing harmful pollutants from the fuel exhaust before it goes out into the air. As a result, doing regular DPF cleaning and testing is one of the most important parts of your maintenance schedule.

Proper DPF cleanings will improve the fuel efficiency and enhance the performance of your entire machine. Aside from the obvious work performance benefits, your fleet’s compliance with emissions standards hinge on DPF quality. We offer DPF cleaning and testing services to help you lower costs and stay up to date with the latest regulations.

How We Will Maintain Your DPF

In most cases, cleaning a DPF is much more cost-effective and economical over the long-term than replacing it. If you’re concerned about the performance of one of your filters, we can test it to ensure that it’s running properly.

At NMC Cat, we specialize in testing, cleaning and implementing disaster prevention strategies for DPF filters. For example, we can help prevent costly job quality issues by keeping your DPF clean. We can also do more thorough cleanings for DPFs that are be blocked by ash or dust.

You’ll likely know right away when particles start blocking your machine’s filter thanks to a warning light that shows up on the display. At that point, you can get in touch with us right away for testing and maintenance services. Doing will extend your filter’s service life and help protect your business from compliance complications.

Our DPF Cleaning and Testing Process

NMC Cat uses a process developed by Caterpillar® called regeneration to conduct DPF cleaning and testing that ensures compliance with Tier 4 Final emissions standards. The proprietary Cat Regeneration System (CRS) entails a periodic introduction of a small amount of fuel into the DPF to burn off accumulated soot. Computer-controlled regeneration takes place in a specially designed closed combustion chamber that resembles a gas-burning furnace.

This technique enables the intelligent measurement of soot levels in a controlled environment. This high-speed system works without any operator interaction. The use of this highly specialized equipment only enables NMC Cat to perform this service in our shop — not in the field.

What Are the Benefits of DPF Cleaning?

In general, DPF testing and cleaning should occur every 5,000 service hours, two years or 200,000 miles. The benefits of the process include:

  • Decreased machine downtime: Your equipment will spend more time on the job, increasing your company’s productivity.
  • Better fuel economy: A clean diesel particulate filter allows your machines’ engines to operate more efficiently and consume less fuel, leading to lower operating costs.
  • Reduced repair costs: Regular DPF cleaning protects engines and minimizes the risk of mechanical failures, which means lower repair expenses
  • Longer lifespan: DPF cleaning can help engines perform better and last longer, extending the time between replacements.
