For 85 years, NMC has proudly supported the hard-working people of Nebraska and its ever-changing landscape.

1938

J.J. (Joe) Swanson & W.A. Norris established Nebraska Machinery Company and opened its first facility in North Platte, Nebraska.

1942

NMC opens its Scottsbluff store.

1939

NMC embarks on its first train trip to the Caterpillar factory in Peoria, Illinois, with 180 guests.

1943

While NMC was supplying equipment to the war effort of the early 1940s, the North Platte rail yard was a stopping point for servicemen on their way to war. NMC employees were among the community volunteers of the North Platte Canteen, which between 1941 and 1946 provided more than 6 million members of the armed forces with home-baked goods and a warm welcome on their journey.

NMC’s sales and service leaders served area counties and construction companies who worked on waterway and dam work throughout western Nebraska as well as county road paving and new construction projects.

1949

NMC helps area communities dig out of three major snowstorms.

1953

Joe Swanson’s son, Jerry, joins the company full-time after serving nearly three years in the US Army.

1945

Joe Swanson purchases Norris’s interest in the company and takes over as president of NMC.

NMC forms NMC Transport for equipment transportation needs throughout Nebraska & the surrounding Midwest.

1999

NMC opens its first Cat Rental store.

2003

NMC opens a truck shop in Lincoln, Nebraska.

2009

NMC opens an NMC Cat Rental Store in Fremont, Nebraska.

NMC helped support local communities through donations, volunteer hours, and drives for food, back to school items winter wear & toys. The team proudly delivered:

  • 586 volunteer hours
  • 2,274 pounds of food
  • 1,467 back to school items
  • 407 winter wear items

2012

In April, NMC opens its Council Bluffs, Iowa, store.
