While NMC was supplying equipment to the war effort of the early 1940s, the North Platte rail yard was a stopping point for servicemen on their way to war. NMC employees were among the community volunteers of the North Platte Canteen, which between 1941 and 1946 provided more than 6 million members of the armed forces with home-baked goods and a warm welcome on their journey.
